Where the Nicosia district Green Points are, when they open in winter and summer, what each one takes, the 100 kg rubble rule, and the municipality's own yards in Kaimakli and Agios Dometios.

Nicosia's Green Points at a glance

Checked: November 2026, against the operator's own pages.

Nicosia district has eight Green Points. Since July 2024 they have been run by the district self-government body, ΕΟΑ Λευκωσίας, which publishes the list, the hours and the rules on prasinasimeia.com. Drop-off is free, but only for household waste, and it has to arrive sorted.

None of the eight is inside Nicosia municipality itself. The one most people in the city use is Strovolos, behind Leroy Merlin. The other seven are out in the villages to the west and south. Nicosia municipality also runs two smaller temporary yards of its own, for its residents only, covered further down.

The eight Green Points and where to find them

The location notes are the operator's own wording. Each site has its own phone number for questions on the day.

  • Strovolos: behind Leroy Merlin, 16 Kalamon Street, Strovolos 2032 (map), 99950161
  • Ergates: next to the industrial area (map), 99950290
  • Kokkinotrimithia: on the road to Denia, on the right just before Denia (map), 99950163
  • Peristerona: on the road to Orounta, on the left (map), 99950170
  • Astromeritis: next to the Astromeritis sewage plant (map), 99950277
  • Linou: on the Kalopanagiotis road (map), 99950288
  • Alampra: east of the Pera Chorio housing estate, at Gerokarka (map), 99950162
  • Malounta: at the turn-off to Agrokipia, on the right (map), 99950266

The map pins are taken from the maps on the operator's site and can be off by a hundred metres or so. Near Strovolos, follow the signs to Leroy Merlin and go round the back. The Dali municipality page calls the Alampra site its own Green Point; it is the same yard.

Opening hours in winter and summer

The current timetable has applied since 2 January 2026. Strovolos opens an hour earlier than the rest.

  • Winter, Monday to Saturday: Strovolos 07:00–17:00, the other seven 08:00–17:00
  • Summer, Monday to Saturday: Strovolos 07:00–19:00, the other seven 08:00–19:00
  • Sunday, all year: Strovolos 07:00–14:00, the other seven 08:00–14:00
  • Closed on public holidays

The gate takes the last visitor 15 minutes before closing, so arriving at 16:55 in winter does not work. On days with an orange or red heat warning the sites have closed between 12:00 and 17:00. For anything else, the operator's line is 77111216, Monday to Friday 08:00–15:30 (contact page).

What you can bring, and what gets turned away

The list is long. Furniture, mattresses and carpets go in the bulky-waste skip. Fridges, washing machines, TVs and other electrical items are taken. Garden prunings are fine as long as the branches are thin. Then the recyclables: paper and cardboard, plastic, glass, aluminium, scrap metal and radiators, wood, clothes, toys. And the awkward small things that should never go in a bin: paint, glue, cleaning products, cooking oil, engine oil, batteries including car batteries, light bulbs, thermometers, old medicines and X-ray films.

What they refuse is anything that is not from a household. Shops, offices, farms, builders and gardeners working for clients are all excluded. Loads also have to be sorted, or at least sortable on the spot by you, into the right skips. A boot full of mixed rubbish bags is the classic way to be sent home.

Rubble: 100 kg per visit

Tiles, a broken basin, a few bags of plaster from a small household job are accepted, within limits: up to 100 kg per visit and per job, and no more than one tonne in any six months. Construction waste brought by a contractor is refused outright, even if the job is in your home.

100 kg goes quickly. It covers a few sacks from patching a wall or replacing a sink. It does not cover stripping a bathroom, where the old tiles, screed and sanitary ware add up to many times that. The rule is on the operator's page about household rubble; older posts online still quote 50 kg, which was the limit in 2019.

Skip hire in Nicosia

Nicosia municipality's temporary yards

Separately from the eight district sites, Nicosia municipality runs two temporary yards for its own residents. They ask for proof of address, such as a utility bill, together with your ID card.

Kaimakli, 2 Giannis Koromias Street, is for residents of Nicosia and Aglantzia. According to the municipality's contact page it opens Monday to Friday 07:00–17:00, Saturday 07:00–14:00 and Sunday 07:00–12:00, phone 99878600.

Agios Dometios, west of the Institute of Neurology and Genetics towards the old airport, is for residents of Engomi and Agios Dometios. The municipality has not published its hours online, so ask at the municipality before going.

Both yards closed for two weeks in August in 2025 and in 2026, while the contractors were on holiday. If you plan a clear-out in August, check first.

Lakatamia, Latsia, Dali and the rest

Latsia-Geri has no Green Point of its own and sends its residents to Strovolos. A new one has been announced for Latsia, to be built by the Water Development Department and handed to the ΕΟΑ, but it was still at tender stage in early 2026. Lakatamia's residents are pointed to Strovolos, Ergates and Kokkinotrimithia. For Dali, Pera Chorio and Nisou the nearest is Alampra.

If you have no car, some municipalities collect bulky items from the kerb for a fee. Strovolos has a paid booking service on its website. Ask your own municipality what it offers before you hire a van.

When a skip is easier than several trips

For a sofa, a fridge or a car boot of prunings, the Green Point is the right answer and costs nothing. It stops being practical in a few situations.

A renovation: once the rubble is over 100 kg a visit, a bathroom or kitchen job means a dozen trips, and the six-month cap still applies. A full house clear-out: furniture, mattresses, boxes and mixed leftovers that you would have to sort by category in the yard. No car, or a small car and a lot of stuff.

In those cases a skip on your driveway is usually cheaper than the van hire and the Saturdays. In Nicosia we deliver a 3 m³ mini skip from €130, and a 6 m³ skip costs €180, with disposal included. Rubble, furniture and garden waste can go in together, and we take the load to licensed facilities.

Questions and answers

Is the Green Point in Nicosia open on Sundays?
Yes. All eight district sites open on Sunday, Strovolos 07:00–14:00 and the others 08:00–14:00. They are closed on public holidays.
Do I have to pay at a Green Point?
No. Drop-off is free for household waste that arrives sorted. Waste from businesses and contractors is not accepted at all.
Do I need proof of address?
The operator of the eight district sites does not list one as a requirement. Nicosia municipality's own yards in Kaimakli and Agios Dometios do ask for a utility bill and your ID card.
How much rubble can I take?
Up to 100 kg per visit and per job, and no more than one tonne in six months, from household work only. A renovation usually produces far more, which is when a skip makes sense.
Can I leave a mattress or an old fridge?
Yes. Mattresses go with bulky waste, and fridges, washing machines and other appliances are accepted as electrical waste.
