Skip on a Limassol Street: How the Permit Actually Works

When you need a permit, and when you do not

The rule is about who owns the ground under the skip, not about the size of the job.

• No permit: your driveway, your garden, a private car park, a building plot inside its fence, a hotel or restaurant service yard. Tell us where to leave it and we deliver.
• Permit needed: a public road, a pavement, a marked parking bay, a pedestrian street. The skip occupies municipal ground, and the municipality wants to know for how long and where exactly.
• Grey area: the strip in front of your house that looks like yours but is public. If cars can park on it, assume it is public.

Which municipality covers your address

Since 1 July 2024 the Limassol area has four municipalities instead of nine. The old Δήμος Γερμασόγειας, Δήμος Αγίου Αθανασίου and Δήμος Μέσα Γειτονιάς no longer issue anything on their own.

• Δήμος Λεμεσού: the city centre, the Old Town, Molos, Neapolis, Kapsalos, Agia Fyla, Mesa Geitonia.
• Δήμος Ανατολικής Λεμεσού: Germasogeia, Potamos Yermasoyias, Agios Athanasios, Agios Tychonas, Mouttagiaka, Parekklisia, Pyrgos.
• Δήμος Πολεμιδιών: Kato Polemidia and Pano Polemidia.
• Δήμος Κουρίου: Ypsonas, Kolossi, Erimi, Trachoni, Episkopi and the villages around them.

What they ask for

Every municipality runs its own form, but the questions are the same. Have these ready before you go in or fill the online request:

• The exact address and a photo or sketch of the spot where the skip will stand
• The dates: delivery day and the day you expect collection. Ask for a day or two of slack; extending later is harder than asking upfront
• The skip size. In Limassol that is 6, 9 or 12 m³; the 12 m³ needs about the length of two parked cars
• Your name and contact details as the person responsible for the placement
• The municipal fee, which is set by each municipality and paid to them directly

Streets where you should plan for a driveway instead

Some spots are technically public road but are rarely approved, or are approved only for a few hours at night. Plan an alternative before you apply:

• Makariou III and Anexartisias: bus lanes and loading bays; placement is usually refused or restricted to specific hours
• The Old Town pedestrian streets around Agiou Andreou and Ankara Street: too narrow for the skip and the delivery truck; our drivers use the small truck and an early morning slot when the municipality does approve
• Molos promenade and the seafront strip: pedestrian priority; restaurants there usually get the skip into a service alley or a rented parking space instead
• Germasogeia tourist road in season: possible, but expect a short window and a request to keep the spot coned

What happens without one

Municipal inspectors do walk the centre, and a skip on a pavement without paperwork is easy to spot. The usual outcome is a fine to the person who ordered it and an instruction to remove the skip within hours, which means an unplanned collection and a second delivery once the permit exists.

Our drivers will not drop a skip on public ground without seeing the permit. That is not us being difficult; it is the operator's licence on the line as much as your fine.
